The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) released a standard governing occupational exposure to hazardous materials in biology and chemistry laboratories. This regulation requires companies to implement a training program that identifies potential hazards in the lab, provides instruction on the precautions laboratory workers must take to prevent accidents and injuries from occurring, and procedures to contain or minimize the damages that result from these incidents.
Interactive Media Communications, Inc. has developed The Laboratory Safety Training Program, a comprehensive program that helps meet the training requirements mandated by the new OSHA Standard. Developed in association with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, it provides laboratory workers with easy to understand information that will help ensure that the laboratory remains a safe and productive working environment.
The program includes two individually sold VHS videotapes and a student workbook, and covers the following material:
Tape 1: Laboratory Safety (Item # 3602-1)
This tape is designed as an overview of the hazards and risks employees routinely encounter in their daily laboratory work. The topics include toxic chemicals, flammables, combustibles, explosives, corrosives, irritants, and reactives. Other lab hazards such as those associated with glassware, compressed gases, radiation, biohazards, electrical hazards, and cryogenics are also featured.
Tape 2: Minimizing Exposure to Chemicals (Item # 3602-2)
This tape demonstrates how employees can best protect themselves when working with hazardous materials by understanding and using MSDS's, safe lab practices, personal protective equipment, and proper storage and waste disposal procedures. This tape also covers specific emergency procedures, reviewing a safety protocol, and where to find additional information about lab safety procedures. Actual simulations of laboratory situations help to emphasize the necessity for a comprehensive chemical hygiene plan.
IMC's VHS videotapes of the Laboratory Safety Training Program contains engaging dramatizations of real-life scenarios with live action video and audio, high quality graphics and animation.
The accompanying Student Workbook (Item # 3045) contains practice questions and exercises to test the learner's understanding of the material presented throughout the course, as well as additional reference material.
The program is available as a complete set including Tape 1, Tape 2, and the Student Workbook. (Item # 3602-A2)
This VHS videotape product is normally sold in NTSC format. Contact IMC for PAL format.
